Live COMbricks Demo Website Enhanced

Procentec staff are frequenty enhancing details and content of their live COMbricks demo web page and, for example, have recently added the new Diagnostic slave info link to show associated new facilities to simplify decoding of reports from the new diagnostic repeater slaves!

The demo site opens showing the Channel List page with realistic pictures of each fitted COMbricks module in the addressed installation, giving an immediatley clear indication of the equipment being used. This display also shows address details of the PROFIBUS devices connected to each module and the particular network number to which that segment is assigned.

COMbricks is a modular range of PROFIBUS system health monitoring and reporting equipment intended primarily for long term performance checks on operational systems, but also extremely useful for short term maintenance or post commissioning performance proving trials for new systems. From Procentec, the ProfiTrace designers, this kit provides on-going assurance that your systems remain healthy over the years and that any potentially threatening weaknesses which may arise are highlighted before they can impact on operational system performance.

The demo installation, at time of writing, includes one Head Station, with one single Channel Repeater, two (single channel) Scope Repeaters, a two Channel Fibre Optic Module, a single PA Link module and one 4 channel Relay Output module. These units link 4 separate segments of  a single PROFIBUS network, with a Master (at address 2) driving 8 slaves in data exchange (shown in green), with 3 more devices shown with addresses 0, 92 and 123 visible, but not currently in data exchange.

From the Live List, it can be seen that the single PROFIBUS network, Network 1, is running at 1.5 Mbps and that this is driving slaves with addresses 12, 22, 52 and 72 over copper segments, with slave 22 connected to the Combricks backplane via a Scope Repeater, allowing for associated bar graph and waveform inspections. Slaves 32 and 42 and connected via the Optical Link Module, with remaining slave at address 82 connected via a PROFIBUS PA link.

This demonstration, shows real-time information from test kit actually running now in the Procentec premises in Holland and includes potentially useful features which could be used for remote monitoring of your PROFIBUS installations, today and tomorrow! Although correctly specified and installed PROFIBUS systems are often very reliable and resiliant, these tools, together with Procentec ProfiTrace, enable preventive maintenance checks – with emailed alarm reports possible from COMbricks systems, together with hard wired digital contacts for local fault lamps, buzzers or connection to SCADA systems for operator advice. Low level data is also offered from the Head Station over the Ethernet port for FDT, OPC or SNMP access.

In your plant or systems, what difficulties, and associated costs might follow from network failure? Are you adequately covered to cope with, or better, prevent any such failures? Do you maybe need a background automatic check and logging system to detect and track even low level sporadic message failures which can be seen by COMbricks, but not by your SCADA systems or control PLCs? Associated reports then enabling preventive maintenance, before any associated faults can have time to cause plant failure!

And for real-time tracking of plant performance from the maintenance workshop the ComBricks Network Condition Indicator program, gives easy to follow traffic light highlighting of any new communication weakeness identified from one or more ComBricks sets?

Please call for further information, or to discusses how we might help you to ensure long term reliability and availability of your plant.
